Abstract: This paper describes an application of the multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) technique for the selection of best maintenance strategy for pumps in the paper industry. The proposed hybrid MCDM model comprises analytical network process (ANP), grey relational analysis (GRA) and technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) technology. ANP is used to compute the criteria weights whereas GRA and TOPSIS are combined together and proposed as GRA-TOPSIS for determining the ranking of alternatives. This study comprises four maintenance strategies, corrective maintenance (CM), predictive maintenance (PM), time-based preventive maintenance (TM) and condition-based maintenance (CBM), and four main criteria, safety, cost, added value and feasibility, which are used to evaluate the optimum maintenance strategy.
