Abstract: A model for composite failure analysis was developed based on the theory of action plane of failure. A Weibull curve jointly with a non-local criterion was used to model fibre failure. Routines were implemented in finite element code and an extensive parametric evaluation, which included identification and sensibility analysis, was performed from the results of elementary coupons. Key parameters and their influence over the response are presented. Finally, the model was validated against experimental data obtained from the tests performed on large composite plates presenting stress concentrator and consistent results were obtained for both structures analysed (notched and circular hole).
