Abstract: Redundant time plays an important role in train rescheduling. Different types and different values of it will bring various results on train rescheduling. The research promoted a simulation method to analyse the impact of two types of redundant time - buffer time and recovery time - on train rescheduling by simulation. The simulation method and a train rescheduling algorithm were described firstly and the common train rescheduling strategies used in train rescheduling were analysed. Then Wuhan-Guangzhou high speed railway (Wuguang HSR) was taken as example for the simulation analysis and different values of buffer time and recovery time were set in the experiments. The different impact of redundant time on rescheduling was analysed from the simulation data and the suitable redundant time of Wuguang HSR was achieved finally.
