Abstract: This paper presents an experimental validation of high-performance deadbeat controller with dead-time compensation technique to regulate the current of variable frequency drive (VFD) fed by cascaded H-bridge (CHB) multilevel inverter (MLI). The proposed deadbeat controller is implemented in the synchronous dq frame to track the current references at each sampling time while the dead-time effect is removed by producing appropriate compensating d-q voltages. The proposed controller is characterised by fast transient response, suitable compensation for load disturbances, and accurate compensation of recurring fluctuations. Theoretical analysis and simulation results are validated on a 5 kW experimental setup.
