Abstract: In this paper, a detailed study has been made at an auto ancillary unit to prioritise the jobs in a press shop which accommodates 170 types of jobs and 27 press machines with different order quantities. The main objective of this work is to develop a simulation model of the press shop to study the performance measures such as lead-time, WIP, machine utilisation, and queue-related statistics and to develop an effective job priority system which improves the performance measures of the press shop. A novel analytic hierarchy process (AHP)-based priority dispatching rule is presented in this study by assigning weights to the factors such as due date, production volume and processing time. The proposed AHP-based priority rule is implemented in the proposed simulation model and it is found to be effective in improving the most of the performance measures considered in this study.
